Life Sciences research is mainly conducted at Groningen University and the University Medical Center of Groningen. Of course many others, companies and institutions, carry out different aspects of LS-related research. Some of them can be found as associated research institutes.
The University Faculty of Medical Sciences is located at the University Hospital (UMCG). Here we find groups such as GUIDE and BMSA. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University houses research in the broadest sense on Life Sciences and Biotechnology.
Thematics
- to develop fundamental insights into the regulation of genes and their corresponding proteins, including the interactions in gene and protein networks;
- to develop fundamental insights into the physical chemical principles which determine the structure, stability, dynamics and catalytic activity of proteins;
- to use this knowledge to apply proteins more effectively to biotechnological processes and medical issues.
